Kundalini Yoga for Health & Happiness

by Kathryn McCusker

In a world that is becoming more stressful, polluted, technology driven and accelerated, it can be a challenge to maintain a healthy and happy body and mind.

Yogi Bhajan who brought the teachings of Kundalini Yoga to the West in1968 said it was everyone’s human right to be healthy and happy. He believed that Kundalini Yoga was for householders, for people who have to cope with the daily challenges and stresses of work, family, business, and relationships.

So how do we build a healthier and happier life?

Firstly, we need to work on creating a deeper awareness of the self and the way in which we are living our lives. The Kundalini Yoga lifestyle gives us a blueprint to create a healthier and happier life, to the way we get up in the morning, go to sleep at night, eat, breathe, take a shower, communicate and so forth.

Yogi Bhajan believed that in every aspect of life, there is a conscious, efficient, and effective way to do it. He brought these teachings to the West, as he foresaw that these tools would be effective for the times we are now living in.

The pace of life is accelerated and our mind is more consumed by technology, so it is essentialwe find tools to consciously develop our mental caliber and meditative mind, so we can live from a state of balance, calm and intuition.

It is our hidden or subconscious patterns that create unhappiness and these are triggered more with stress levels. Through the teachings of Kundalini Yoga and meditation we have the possibility to clear the subconscious patterns and hidden-self concepts that block us from choosing happiness. The clearing of the subconscious mind will help you to move on from attachments that are keeping you stuck in your past and to trust and embrace what is real and important to you.

There are specific Kundalini meditations that have now been scientifically proven to clear the subconscious, change the neuron pathways and balance the nervous system, which impacts our capacity to live in a healthier and happier state.

Kundalini Yoga teaches us how to build a stronger immune system, a more balanced glandular system and good blood circulation, all of which will de-stress you and make you look and feel younger and more energised.

In Kundalini Yoga we mostly focus our eyes towards the third eye point, between the eyebrows, with our eyes closed. This is where the pituitary gland is located, which controls our levels of serotonin in the brain. By focusing at this point, we are increasing levels of serotonin in the body, which makes us feel happier and healthier.
